"When we think of monasteries, we rarely associate them with weapons and battles. However, during the Turkish invasions, even monks found themselves in situations where they had to fight for their lives. In the lecture „When a Father Takes Up a Rifle“, we will explore how monasteries in Slovenia organized their defense against Turkish invaders.

The monastery's defense will be examined from multiple perspectives: How the monastery's location influenced its defense, what weapons the defenders used, and, most importantly – who defended the monasteries.

The lecture will be given by Svit Podgornik, a graduate historian from Šentvid pri Stični, who researched the topic of medieval monastery defense as part of his thesis at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana."
