Castles of King Matthias

A competition for teams building snow castles and snow sculptures thematically related to the legend of King Matthias. The all-day building event is accompanied each year by a diverse entertainment and cultural program (team presentations, the selection of Alenčica, torch and candle lighting, a fire performance, the ceremonial arrival of King Matthias, the awarding of prizes to the best teams, and musical performances at an authentic Carinthian party). The fairytale-like event reaches its peak in the evening with the lighting of torches and the announcement of the most beautiful castles, as the snow creations shine even brighter under the torchlight. Sunday is dedicated to children, featuring engaging activities such as children's animations, puppet shows, treasure hunts, horseback riding, and other fun children’s activities. On Sunday, prizes are awarded for the best artistic and literary works on the theme of King Matthias, created by students from Slovenian primary schools.
